Teak Furniture Quality
Teak is a deciduous hardwood that principally grows in the highlands of South East Asia.
It has a naturally high oil content which makes it both stable and resistant to rotting when exposed to even
the most extreme climatic conditions. For centuries these qualities have made it the number one choice for
marine decking and boat construction and is why it is considered the premium wood for outdoor furniture.
Although genetically fixed, teak does vary substantially when it comes to quality. The kiln drying process that the
wood has to go through prior to manufacture is extremely important and will have a direct effect on how the wood
behaves later when weathering. This can take up to 4 months which when added to the manufacture, assembly
and shipping means a cycle of over 6 months for certain products. This delay is obviously not passed on to our
customers as we generally have our full product range in stock in the UK.
